The Story Behind Elemental Botanicals: a Journey of a Cosmetic Alchemist
Elemental Botanicals, my botanical skincare line, was born out of a deep desire to create something wholly my own. After years of pouring my energy into making other people’s dreams come true, I felt the pull to finally nurture my own vision.
My skin has carried its own story—acne well into my twenties, the scars that lingered, sun spots from my explorations into nature. The skin is our protection from our environment. Perfect isn’t natural. Every “imperfection” on our skin tells a story that is as unique as each of us. I longed for products that honored this story. Products that didn’t just fill a blank in a routine or treat imperfections, but carried a sense of ritual, beauty, and healing. I wanted to create a line that celebrated our own uniqueness, promoting skin health rather than treating symptoms. At the same time, I want to create a line that celebrates Nature and all the powerful potential natural ingredients hold.
I fell in love with certain product formats I encountered through my clients, but I wanted to infuse them with my own magic. The flowers and herbs my mother grew, the ancestral wisdom I carried, the alchemy of plants. I knew I could create something truly divine.
But the journey began even earlier. Years ago, I found myself working in a lab producing botanical extracts. We started with whole plants and ended with isolated components: essential oils, raw extracts, crystallized actives. One day, as I fine-tuned my isolation process, I noticed a mysterious pearlescent solid precipitating out of my extract. It shimmered with an iridescent sheen, unlike anything I had seen before. Intrigued, I began collecting it.
After weeks of collecting the substance, I sent a sample for analysis. When the results came in I found out that my mysterious substance was a mix of fatty alcohols! Entirely naturally occurring, botanically derived, and utterly captivating. I knew I had stumbled upon something special. These waxy solids were often used in lotions and balms, and I felt a spark: what if I could build a skincare line around them? My journey in cosmetic product development truly began.
Because I was already producing botanical extracts and essential oils in-house, I envisioned a plant-focused line infused with traditional medicine. A fusion of ancient wisdom and cosmetic science. I dove into herbalism, devouring books and scholarly articles, learning how to blend herbs synergistically into topical formulations that could target specific skin needs. Slowly, the line took shape.
At its center were those fatty alcohols, the catalyst for this creative journey. From there, we launched a beautifully intentional collection: a whipped body butter, an herbal salve, a clay mask, and a facial serum. Soon, clients began pouring in, and companies approached me to create lines of their own. This skincare line was even featured in Forbes magazine! How crazy!
Almost a decade later, I remain enthralled by the endless gifts of nature. The botanical ingredients that inspire me, the unique formulas that emerge from them, the rituals they invite us into.
Elemental Botanicals is more than skincare. It is an expression of my soul, a creative endeavor born out of passion for plant-powered wellness. Every ingredient is chosen with intention. Every scent is a symphony of essential oils, inviting you to slow down and embrace a moment of self-care. No fillers, no fluff, no synthetic shortcuts—just pure, botanical goodness.
This is only the beginning. In the coming chapters, I’ll share the stories behind each of my product lines—the resilience woven into Morning Dew, the healing spirit of the Restorative Line, and the grounding strength of Rooted Hair Care. Together, they form a saga of self-care, each one carrying its own lesson, ritual, and invitation.
