Rooted: A Haircare Line for Growth, Ritual, and Reclamation

For the past few years, I’ve been quietly working on something behind the scenes. An expansion of Elemental Botanicals that brings me back to my earliest roots. Before I had any formal training, before this became my career, I was just a girl in her mom’s kitchen experimenting with self‑care potions for fun. The very first recipes I ever made were hair masks. I’d spend hours blending honey, avocado, banana — anything I thought might make a magical concoction — and then slap it on my head and hope for the best. Some were wonderful, others left me brushing dried banana out of my hair for days, but I loved every second of creating!

Twenty years later, I’ve found myself right back at that beginning point, whipping up hair potions again — this time with intention, experience, and formulas I’m truly proud of. After years of development, I’m finally ready to share that Elemental Botanicals now includes a full haircare line called Rooted!!

Like all my product lines, this one began with the herbal synergy at its core. Rooted features a patchouli leaf infusion in rice bran and aloe vera — a blend that mirrors the heart of my other collections. The patchouli is grown by my mom and me here in Illinois. We harvest, dry, and slowly infuse the leaves to draw out their aromatic and energetic qualities. Patchouli has a long history of being used in traditional remedies for supporting healthy hair and revitalizing stagnant roots, and it felt like the perfect anchor for this line.

My Why

The inspiration for Rooted came from a deeply personal place. I didn’t set out to create a hair growth line — I simply started making what I needed. In my early twenties, my hormones were completely out of balance, and I was dealing with the cascade of symptoms that came with it. Like so many young women, I had been put on birth control at a very early age to manage things like acne and painful periods, without being offered deeper education or support around my hormonal health.

I was sixteen when I started taking it, and I stayed on it continuously for the next ten years. No one ever talked to me about how long‑term use might affect my body or mind, and by the time a doctor finally explained more to me, I was already struggling with intense mood changes, stubborn acne, and noticeable thinning in my hair. Learning that my contraception might be contributing to what I was experiencing was a shock — and it pushed me to make a change.

I chose to stop and began a long, slow process of reconnecting with my body and supporting my hormonal cycle in a more intentional way. As things gradually began to regulate, some symptoms eased… but my hair didn’t recover the way I hoped. For someone who had always had naturally thick hair, seeing bald spots and fragile patches was heartbreaking. That’s when I returned to what I knew: mixing oils, crafting masks, and creating my own treatments the way I did as a teenager — only this time with more knowledge, more intention, and a much deeper need.

Not long after that chapter, another hurdle appeared. A period of intense anxiety, depression, and OCD compulsions left me once again facing thinning hair — this time from the unconscious picking and pulling I used to cope with overwhelming stress. Seeing new bald spots appear was devastating, and it became clear that I needed to make a major shift in my life, something far deeper than another self‑care routine.

I began therapy and committed to understanding the roots of my anxiety and compulsions. I learned new ways to self‑soothe, ways that didn’t harm my body, and slowly I began healing not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. As I found my footing again, I returned to caring for the parts of myself I had unintentionally neglected, including my hair.

Around this same time, I was launching my skincare line and formulating products for clients. One of those clients was a salon, and I created a botanical haircare line for their curly‑haired community. That project lit something inside me. I realized I could take everything I was learning, everything I was healing, and channel it into products that supported my own hair journey.

So I started experimenting. For years, I made every single hair product I used. I stopped buying anything from the store and crafted small batches just for myself, refining each formula slowly and intentionally. Over time, I realized these recipes weren’t just helping me — they had the potential to support others who were navigating the same frustration, shame, or discouragement I once felt.

Just like my skincare line was born from my struggle with acne and hyperpigmentation, this haircare line grew from my journey through thinning hair, self‑consciousness, and ultimately, self‑acceptance. I used to hide my bald spots. Now, I honor them as part of my story — reminders of everything I’ve overcome.

Supporting women in reclaiming their confidence feels like one of my divine purposes, and Rooted is an extension of that calling.

With all of that said, Rooted isn’t just a collection of products — it’s a ritual, a reclamation, and a love letter to the parts of ourselves we’re learning to nurture again. Each formula was created with intention, shaped by my own healing, and designed to support you on your journey back to your roots.

So let me introduce you to the products that make up the Rooted haircare line…

Product Roadmap

When I began creating this line, I knew I didn’t want to make products that simply fit into a haircare routine — I wanted to craft an entire ritual. My own self‑care practice is rooted in intention and holistic mindfulness. Washing my hair isn’t just washing my hair. It’s nourishing my roots, grounding my nervous system, and giving my mind and scalp a reset for the week ahead.

Rooted was designed to support that kind of care — slow, sensory, and deeply restorative.

Hair Growth Oil — Begin With Ritual

The first step in the Rooted ritual is the Hair Growth Oil, a potent blend of twenty raw botanical oils — cold‑pressed, unrefined, and steam‑distilled. It smells like an ancient remedy, deep green in color, with a gentle tingle that awakens the scalp the moment it touches your skin.

This oil invites you to begin your routine with presence. A deep scalp massage breaks up buildup, encourages circulation, and reconnects you to your body before you even step into the shower. For years, I went straight into shampooing, and my scalp paid the price — dryness, irritation, stagnation. Massaging in this oil changed everything. It’s grounding, nourishing, and honestly just feels incredible.

I love leaving it on overnight to let the botanicals soften buildup and prepare the scalp for cleansing.

Hair Growth Oil — Full Ingredient List:

rice bran oil*, grape seed oil*, jojoba oil*, marula oil, aloe vera oil, pumpkin seed oil, olive oil*, black cumin seed oil, tamanu oil,  rosemary extract*, & lavender, sweet orange, geranium, palmarosa, copaiba balsam+, frankincense+, clary sage+, cedarwood+, patchouli+, & cinnamon essential oils, patchouli leaf+

Clarifying Shampoo — A Botanical Reset

Next in the ritual is the Clarifying Shampoo — a botanical powerhouse built around the same patchouli infusion, supported by aqueous extracts of rice, horse chestnut, chickpea, oatmeal, bamboo, nettle, plankton, and ashwagandha. Each herb complements the next, creating a formula that clears away buildup while nourishing the roots and leaving the hair clean, hydrated, and supple.

Instead of water, I use lavender and rosemary hydrosols as the base. They bring a soothing, stimulating quality that supports a balanced scalp environment. And the scent — a bright, luxurious blend of lavender, honey myrtle, may chang, cedarwood, and jasmine absolute — turns your shower into a sensory escape.

Deep Conditioner — Nourish + Restore

Following the shampoo is the Deep Conditioner, a thick, restorative mask built on the same botanical extracts and patchouli infusion that anchor the entire Rooted line. But this formula shifts into a softer, more soothing direction with a base of rose hydrosol — chosen for its ability to comfort the scalp and soften the hair.

To complement that softness, I added a touch of cinnamon extract to gently stimulate the scalp. The combination of rose and cinnamon is warm, floral, and quietly intoxicating. It feels like a love letter to your hair. To deepen the scent I use a blend of sweet orange oil, palmarosa essential oil, neroli and patchouli essential oil. Together they smell warm, floral, but deeply grounding.

Scalp & Beard Balm — The Original Rooted Creation

The final product in the Rooted lineup actually made its debut back in 2024: the Scalp & Beard Balm. Long before this line existed, I had been making my own scalp balm using my favorite herbal allies for soothing and supporting the skin. Eventually, I realized it was time to share it.

This balm is rich, grounding, and deeply comforting — perfect for dry patches, tender spots, or areas that need a little extra love.

Conclusion — Returning to the Roots

Rooted is more than a haircare line. It’s the story of coming home to myself, again and again. It’s the reminder that healing is rarely linear, that our bodies speak to us in whispers and shouts, and that tending to ourselves with intention can become a form of devotion.

Every formula in this line was born from lived experience, from the seasons when I felt disconnected from my body, and from the slow, steady work of rebuilding trust with myself. These products carry the plants that supported me, the rituals that grounded me, and the lessons that shaped me. They are an offering to my younger self, to the women who have walked similar paths, and to anyone longing to reconnect with their roots.

My hope is that Rooted becomes a moment of pause in your week. A place where you breathe deeper. A place where you remember your strength. A place where you feel nourished, not just on your scalp, but in your spirit.

Thank you for being here, for supporting my craft, and for allowing me to share something so deeply personal. It is an honor to walk this journey with you.

Welcome to Rooted: may it help you grow back into yourself, one ritual at a time.

If this story resonates with your own journey, I invite you to experience Rooted for yourself. Reclaim your confidence. Reconnect with your roots.
